Europe sees mixed solar and wind energy trends in late January

In the fourth week of January, solar photovoltaic energy production rose in both the German and French markets compared to the previous week. The German market recorded the largest increase of 73% following a prior week of growth, while the French market saw a 12% rise. In contrast, markets on the Iberian Peninsula and in Italy experienced declines in solar output. Spain and Portugal reported drops of 3.2% and 4.5%, respectively, while Italy saw a 16% decrease.

For the week of January 26, according to AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s solar energy projections, solar production is expected to increase in the Italian market compared to the previous week. Conversely, generation will decline in Spain and Germany.

During the week of January 19, wind energy production rose in most major European markets compared to the previous week. The Spanish market recorded the largest increase at 120% after a week of declines, followed by Portugal with a 75% rise. The Italian and French markets also saw gains of 65% and 5.9%, respectively. By contrast, the German market registered a 9.1% drop, marking its third consecutive week of decline.

For the last week of January, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s wind energy outlook indicates that production will increase in Spain, Germany, and Italy, while output is expected to decrease in France and Portugal, AleaSoft reports.
